It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave us all this choice to make. I want to tell you about a group of people who choose to light a candle.

I started working with the Spiritual Care Corps in February of 2021 at the invitation of a friend. They had gathered at the beginning of the pandemic to offer spiritual care to the people of Maine. Nobody knew what the future would bring but whatever darkness was ahead they were looking to light a candle. As the needs for care changed so did the Spiritual Care Corps.

Now we are a nonprofit organization known as, Spiritual Care Services of Maine. We continue to serve the people of Maine in cooperation with our partner organizations working with the Maine CDC and Department of Human Services. Currently we provide spiritual services to help cope with the stress and anxiety related to isolation, quarantines, and ongoing effects of COVID-19.

In January 2022, I accepted the position of Assistant Clinical Director. It is an honor and a joy to help organize and administer the day-to-day operations. I am collaborating with an incredible crew of chaplains and a creative Board of Directors.
